German company WIS Kunststoffe is entering a new phase of development following the completion of its generational management transition, while continuing to invest in recycling and post-consumer plastic materials. Daniel Römhild is taking over management responsibility from company founder Siegmar Römhild, marking the transfer of leadership to the next generation of the family-owned business. The founder will remain involved with the company in an advisory capacity. The management transition is accompanied by the continuation of WIS Kunststoffe's growth strategy. The company plans to invest several million euros in Germany, focusing on new recycling technologies, additional production capacity, expansion of its distribution activities and the development of PCR materials for applications with demanding technical requirements. The strategy is particularly relevant at a difficult time for Europe's mechanical recycling industry, which is facing weak demand, pressure on recyclate prices and competition from both virgin polymers and imported recycled materials. In this environment, investment in quality, technology and recycled materials for higher-value applications could become an increasingly important competitive differentiator.Trusetal becomes part of the PCR strategy
The current plans continue an expansion process already initiated by the company. In May 2025, WIS Kunststoffe acquired the former BOS facility in Trusetal, Germany, with the objective of developing the site as a production centre for post-consumer recyclates. The site covers approximately 18,000 m² and includes two production halls, with activities focused primarily on PP- and PE-based recycled materials. The company has also announced further investment in the site's infrastructure, including storage capacity and equipment required to support the expansion of production.Continuity in a challenging market
The WIS Kunststoffe case is particularly relevant for the European market at a time when many independent recyclers are facing margin pressure and difficulties in justifying new investments. Rather than adopting a defensive strategy, the German company is signalling continued development of its PCR activities and further investment in recycling technology.
