• Amcor has developed shrink and pallet stretch films containing 30% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) for Tiptree. • The new solutions are certified for their recycled content. • The move comes ahead of changes to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax framework. • The project illustrates how regulatory and fiscal requirements are translating into direct demand for recycled plastics.
Amcor has developed new packaging films containing 30% post-consumer recycled plastic for Wilkin & Sons’ Tiptree brand in the United Kingdom. The solution covers both shrink film and stretch film used for palletisation, introducing recycled material into secondary and tertiary packaging applications without changing the primary packaging of the food products. According to the companies, the films have certified recycled content, providing Tiptree with a documented solution as recycled-content requirements become increasingly important for packaging users. The development comes ahead of changes to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax. The British system has been designed to encourage the use of recycled plastic in packaging by applying a tax to plastic packaging that does not meet the required recycled-content threshold. For the plastics and recycling industry, the project is significant beyond the individual application. It demonstrates how fiscal and regulatory measures can translate into concrete demand for PCR materials and encourage packaging users to incorporate recycled polymers into applications where technical performance and consistency remain essential. This dynamic is becoming increasingly relevant across Europe as packaging producers, converters and brand owners prepare for higher recycled-content requirements and more demanding documentation and traceability obligations. The ability of recyclers and compounders to provide consistent quality, verified recycled content and reliable volumes will therefore become increasingly important as regulatory requirements move from policy targets into purchasing specifications.
