The European Commission is drafting a new regulation governing the import of recycled materials from outside the European Union.
The main objective is to ensure that imported recyclates meet the same quality and safety standards as those produced within the EU.
The proposal, expected to be debated in the European Parliament in early 2026, aims to prevent the inflow of low-quality or non-compliant recycled plastics into the European market.
This initiative is part of the broader EU Circular Economy Action Plan and complements existing End-of-Waste and Waste Shipment regulations.
